TYWI has held online summer programs since 2020. This will be our 6th summer camp.
This program is completely free or pay-what-you-can donation-based, with ample waivers to ensure access to our programs remain completely accessible for all young writers.

What is Summer Camp about?

TYWI's Virtual Summer Camp is an exciting opportunity for 13-19 year olds who desire to immerse themselves in their craft and make long-lasting connections with other writers. Summer Camp is 6 weeks long, with one weekly workshop. There will be opportunities for writers to set goals, complete educational exercises, and make meaningful connections that will truly last them a lifetime.

Cabins

  • 13-15 age group
  • 16-19 age group
We will not be dividing by genre this time, but prompts will be agnostic enough to cover various writing disciplines!

  • Daily camp challenges focused on establishing writing habits and consistency
  • Daily writing sprints with fellow campers
  • Education on literature and craft-building tools
  • Community feedback and networking
  • Weekly craft and professional development workshops with professional writers and publishers
  • 6-week long virtual camp held on discord

What is Summer Workshop about?

Summer Workshop is designed for more mature writers aged 20 and above. Modeled after MFA programs, our virtual Summer Workshop participants will be put in a group of fellow writers who will help provide one another with feedback and foster a community of accountability that will help writers meet their summer goals.

This program will require writers to bring forward two pieces of writing that they desire to be workshopped by their small workshop cohort. At the end of the program, writers will leave with two polished pieces or a critiqued-full piece, techniques to improve their craft, ideas for future works, and life-long friends.

  • Organized based on workshop interest and alignment with writing style

TYWI's summer camp program has been a godsend. TYWI's Summer Camp is a wonderful program for many young writers such as myself! I had never joined a writing camp, but because of how accessible this camp was, I said to myself, why not? I immediately felt welcomed and was very impressed by how many people had also decided to join. From the past weeks I have been in this camp, I've learned so many things and have seen much improvement in my writing through the challenges and feedback. This summer camp has been absolutely incredible. It utilizes the internet and connections to both challenge, and encourage the growth of young writers. There aren't many easily accessed programs for young writers, and this is not only online, but it is also free. I have found myself growing exponentially in the past couple weeks, and I cannot wait to look back at my growth when all is said and done. I can't imagine how much more I will grow.
