This lit mag, Fading Ink: A Journey Through Literary History, covers various literary periods from early beginnings to contemporary literature.

Club Activities

Over the past month, they have hosted various meetings to start our literary magazine project. They also had the honor of hosting NYU professor and poet, Geoffrey Nutter, via Zoom for a Poetry workshop. Their Director of Events, Emily Ortiz, has also been working on bi-weekly informational Instagram writing posts for students to share and use for their own writing. Currently, they are wrapping up their volunteer project with Students Speak Up for Kids, where they are creating Creative Writing and professional writing blog posts for their Life Skills portal, aimed at helping kids in the foster care system.

They are also currently working on Lit Mag, City-Wide Book Swap, and anonymous QR codes w/ writing prompts around campus and club writing activities. Coming soon!!

BASIS Independent Fremont
Club Activities
  • They are currently working on third and final issue of the year, whose theme is spirals. Members are writing pieces, and artists are designing the cover pages.
  • Collaborated with Irvington High School to host an open mic night at the Tamper Room coffee shop in April.
  • On March 13th they hosted a lunch-time creative activities for high school students - Frankenstein poetry and blackout poetry. They plan to feature student creations in our upcoming magazine.
  • In February they released their first-ever multimedia issue (60-pages) featuring extensive student body submissions of art, poetry, prose, photography, and music. They also decorated the school bulletin board with writing from Black authors in honor of Black History Month.
  • December 2024: They published school-year’s first issue (nostalgia-themed, 60-pages), and hosted open mic night at school.
