Volunteer Beta Reader
We are so excited to announce the long awaited return of TYWI’s Beta Reading program! We are seeking enthusiastic volunteers ages 14-26 to join our valued community of beta readers.
What are we looking for in a reader?
We are looking for candidates who:
Will provide insightful, detailed, and respectful constructive feedback.
Have a passion for reading, writing, and supporting others in their journey with the creative arts
Demonstrate excitement and enthusiasm about getting involved with our community.
What can you expect?
Each cycle, beta readers browse the manuscript list and select a project that entices them, much like picking a book off a shelf. Over the course of two months, volunteers will read their assigned manuscript and provide specific feedback to the authors through comments and questionnaires.
What commitment is required?
Volunteers are expected to complete one manuscript in a two month window. As the length of a novel varies, so will the reader’s commitment, but breathe easy: we understand life gets busy! You will never be required to choose a project outside of your comfort zone, whether that means choosing a shorter manuscript or waiting for the next project list before making a commitment.
What are the benefits of being a Volunteer?
Volunteers are essential to TYWI’s mission. In addition to the opportunity to join a global community empowering young authors, you are able to earn volunteer hours, gain exclusive access to volunteer-only events, and unlock certain perks when submitting your own work to TYWI services. In order to keep TYWI’s services free, all positions are volunteer based and do not involve monetary compensation.
What are the steps to becoming a volunteer?
Volunteer beta reading positions are application based. If selected, you will join TYWI’s two week Beta Reading Boot Camp, where we will instruct you on every step of the process, from advice on giving feedback, to logistics when selecting your first manuscript. After your first probationary project, you will be invited to join our year-round beta reading team, or given the option to re-apply to our boot camp program. If you are a reader under the age of 18, you will be asked to complete a guardian consent form upon acceptance to our boot camp program.
