Juven Issue III Theme: RE/UNTOLD
Juven Issue III wants to bend the rules, cross the boundries. The theme is Re/Untold. This issue, we challenge you to retell stories with a different perspective or tell stories often untold. Retold challenges you to give us a new perspective or a twist in the road usually not taken. Give us your interesting takes on folktales and fairytales, something that tells us something new or necessary about humankind. Reinvent the rainy day, rebrand the love triangle, travel to the depths of your imagination and give us something we won't expect or didn't know we were expecting. We want to read innovation on the page. But you don't have to do fairytales or retell conventional stories. You can write new stories with a fresh perspective too, which is the other side of the theme - Untold. Untold challenges you to write and create pieces that tell us stories through the eyes of those least recognized in them. Think of the henchman in the heist, the forgotten childhood love, the backup singer who almost snagged the spotlight, but never got there. We want you to tell the stories often untold.

What are “overly sexual themes”?
Overly sexual includes material that could be classified as pornographic, erotica, or R-rated. Kissing is permitted, but not a full-fledged make out session. We will not permit scenes that include sex, or that contain explicit descriptions of nudity. We will also not accept the sexualization of bodies. What a young writer should read is all that should be put.
What is “excessive violence”?
Excessive violence includes a vivid description of violence that would not be suitable for a young audience. Violence is permitted, but if methods of suicide (think 13 Reasons Why) are depicted, then your work will not be selected.
