Mentor: Leta Patton
About Leta
I graduated with honors with a BA in English Literature and am currently a graduate student pursuing an MFA in fiction writing. In 2018, my novel L'ANGE DE LA MORT was selected as a Watty winner in the contemporaries category. In 2019, I was awarded my second Watty for my novel THE CONSEQUENCES OF CHAMPAGNE AND MURDER in the category of historical fiction. I've also written short fiction pieces for campaign partnerships with companies such as Southwest Airlines. When I'm not writing, I enjoy EDM, milk tea, and looking at pictures of aesthetically pleasing ceiling frescoes.
Mentor Statement
I specialize in historical fiction but have dabbled in many other genres as well including sci-fi, fantasy, and horror. I love focusing on the beauty of the written word and how sentences flow together to create something wonderful and poignant. I'm all about writing descriptions and delving deeper into characters to find their unique voice and motivations. I'd be a good fit for writers who want to fine-tune their craft in general or anyone who struggles with finding voice for their characters/creating character relationships and emotions. I'd also love to help anyone who wants to learn more about doing research for their work and balancing factual information with fiction. While I can help with most genres, I'm not a good fit for contemporary or anyone who needs help with fantastical magic systems and worldbuilding.
