What Being A TYWI Leader Means
Being a TYWI leader is an amazing experience, but it also means you are the support system of this organization. With goals so big, we need immense organization and leadership to accomplish anything. That's why we are calling you to apply to be a leadership member of The Young Writers Initiative! This is a volunteer, non-compensated position, is open internationally, minimum age to apply is 14, there is no age cap. There is no "end date" as this is a position that will continue as long as you are not removed. 4-5 hours committment weekly,
Being a leadership member means that you get to be part of a great team of passionate people who want to make a change in the world. It also means that you will grow your leadership skills, meet new people, put in hard work, and grow this organization so it can help all the young writers out there.

Available Positions
We have split the applications into three based on their category. There are the Pioneer Program applications, Existing Program Applications, and Communications Applications (Marketing).
PIONEER PROGRAMS LEADERS
Pioneer Programs are programs that are new and still in development. You would be very hands on in these roles and would be instramental in crafting the bones of these programs. You'll work closely with the Executive Director. These positions include a lot of trial and error, research, and reaching out to people for advice. This also means you must be dedicated to the program and don't have intentions to leave for a while.
Director of Finance and Fundraising
The Director of Finance and Fundraising at TYWI is the only position that will get a position on our actual board of directors, meaning you will be on the governing board of our organization. This is a very important position and requires prior experience in money-management and fundraising, whether that means being a Treasurer at a club at your school or having a position like this at another organization. We are also looking for someone with experience in fundraising, specifically virtual fundraising, and an outstanding work-ethic.
- The Director of Finance and Fundraising is expected to put 5-6 hours into TYWI a week and will be responsible for contacting sponsors, donor research, and brainstorming and implimenting fundraising ideas. They also document TYWI finances, help develop the budget, manage the budget, and advise the team on expenses and earnings.
The Director of Chapters is our newest, most exciting program. Do you want to help grow TYWI around the world, allowing us to offer our services and opportunities in-person? Do you want to help lead a program where people can lead chapters of TYWI in their area so they can best help their community? Then Director of Chapters is for you!
- The Director of Chapters will be responsible with working with Riya to research, plan, develop, and execute TYWI's flagship Chapter Program. The Chapter Program is essentially where we authorize people to lead TYWI Chapters (aka clubs) at their schools. Each chapter will require monthly check-ins and supervision, along with resources given to them and approval for their annual project. This position is open to having partner directors, so you won't be doing it alone.
Do you love to read and write? Do you often look at books and see how you can learn from them as a writer? TYWI hopes to start a bookclub this fall, and we need Book Club Managers to help chose, read, develop activities, contact authors, and organize meetings for our TYWI Book Club. If this sounds like something you'd be interested, apply!
- Book Club Managers will be responsible of curating a list of books to chose from each month, reading said books, contacting agents for arcs, and deciding which book to feature that month. After, they need to develop material and discussion points about the book and what we as writers can learn from it. They will also be responsible for contacting authors to meet with the book club members.
For our final new program, TYWI wants to start a podcast and needs podcast hosts! Our podcast is writing and art based with fun segments that provide an enjoyable, yet informative listening session. We want enthusiastic, well-spoken, and meticulous speakers to host the TYWI Podcast along with the exisiting team.
- Podcasts hosts will be responsible for picking topics, assessing audience interest, research, script-writing, pre-planning, contacting guests, recoridng episodes, and helping edit and post episodes. We are open to hiring multiple for this position
EXISTING PROGRAMS LEADERS
Exisiting programs leaders will be joining established programs that people at TYWI know and love. You would be entering an existing program with existing leadership, so you should be ready to enter that with enthusiasm and ability to get work done.
Editing Assistant Director Internal

Video Editors will be vital as the organization grows. They will edit promo videos for events and programs, podcast episodes, and maybe YouTube videos. Needs to see proficency and will ask to be emailed or shown a sample video before or during the interview. Hiring multiple people.
Content Writers
Have you read one of our tips? That's called content writing! Content writers are in charge of researching and writing post content on a document for graphic designers to format. All tips are attributed to your name! We want content writers to write 1-3 articles or posts a week.
Graphic Designers
Graphic Designers bring content to life while maintaining the TYWI Brand and adding something new to it. We're looking for passionate designers that are great at Canva. Adobe and Procreate would be appreciated, but not mandatory. You'll be asked for a sample in your application.
Website Editors
We already have a website (that you're viewing right now) but we need someone to keep it updated and hopefully improve it. That's what a Website Editor would do. Weebly experience is highly preferred, but if you want to switch us to a new website, tell us why.
Discord Moderators

Board of Directors: This is the governing board of the organization, consisting of 10 leadership members, including the Executive Director and Creative Director.
Services Department: The service board is composed of our editing, beta reading, book reviewing, contests, and cover designing services.
Communications Department: This department deals with marketing. This includes our marketing directors, graphic designers, content writers, PR directors, and Engagement Directors, and all the volunteers and folks under that.
Programs Departments: This includes summer camp, mentorship, events, chapters, publications, workshops, education, and more.
JUVEN: This is the publishing side of TYWI
Commitment
Being a board member is an honorable, yet tasking job. It requires responsibility and dedication to the organization. Please do not apply if you do not have 5-6 hours a week at least to spend for The Young Writers Initiative, if not more. Also realize that resigning as a board member will require one weeks notice. Being a board member will look good on resumes, college applications, and will provide you with valuable leadership skills. The Executive Director will gladly award you with recomendation letters and such.
Communication
Staying in contact is a very important aspect of this organization. For these reasons, you will be required to download/access Slack and Discord, our team management platforms! Both are mandatary.
Notion will also be a method for us to keep track of projects. It is mandatory if you have access to it.
Temporary Break Policy
We understand things happen, so we are very giving with our break policy. All we ask of you is this: communicate with us.
Removal from position
If you do not respond to any communication for two weeks without notice, you will be removed from the position.
If you are unable to complete your job at the standard we uphold, we will give you a warning before removing you.
If you behaved inappropriately or rudely to fellow board members, volunteers, or clients, you will be removed.
Removal will erase all of your service points and benefits.
Application Process
The application is extensive, so we recommend that you take some time on it. We will actually read these and pick board members carefully.
Online Application: here you will answer some information, upload your resume, indicate the best time for an interview, and write some short responses to some questions we have. You will be taken to a form, where you will fill out the entire first section. Then, depending on your desired position, you will fill out the applications for that position. You DO NOT have to fill out all the sections unless you are interested in all the positions

2. The application will ask for a referall. If you do not have one, it will not hurt one. Also optional.
Interview: We will host online group interviews through zoom in your preferred time and ask a series of questions. Group interviews and pitches are designed for you an another applicant to work together. We want to see your teamwork in action, and at the same time, we want to ease your worries. Group interviews are not a competition, they are collaboration, and if you and your partner do well, then you both may get the position!

For example, we may ask content writers and graphic designers to create one sample TYWI post together to present at the interview. All pitches will be presented at the interview.
