The Young Writers Initiative proudly introduces our newest contest, Ekphrasis, which is our contest where we offer a monetary prize of $40 each to 4 different young creatives! Thank you to our anonymous donor for making this possible.
What is Ekphrasis? For TYWI’s next contest, we have decided to bring forth something new and unusual. This contest will be different from the rest… Ekphrasis means: the use of detailed description of a work of visual art as a literary device. Meaning, if you were to submit a poem to this contest, you would have to base it off of a previously made art piece and your poem interpretation of it. For the artists and photographers, you would have to take/make a creative piece based off a poem or a short prose piece previously written. In your submission you would submit your piece and the properly credited art/photography/prose/poetry piece you based it off of.
