Board Member Applications

Applications are now OPEN! They will close on December 12th
As we grow as an organization, we are always looking for ways to branch out and help more young creatives. Now, we are reaching out for more hands on deck to boost our existing departments and programs, and to support and guide our developing ones. Check out some of the information below if you're interested in applying!
Why should I apply?
  • It's a great way to get more involved with our organization
  • It opens up many doors for employment or opportunities
  • You get priority services
  • You gain leadership and planning skills
  • You join a vibrant community of passionate writers and artists who love TYWI
  • You get cool perks, like access to all our programs, your own email (if you're a board member), connections, and valuable experience.
  • You join a team of people who are close-knit, fun, and kind.
What positions are available?
  • Event Director
  • Assistant Directors for our main departments (includes Editing, Beta Reading, Book Reviewing, and Cover Design)

  • Lit Journal Staff
  • Social Media Managers (includes Tik Tok, Facebook, and Blogging)
  • Newsletter Manager
  • Engagement Director
What is TYWI looking for in applicants?

This is largely dependent on the specific position and the department they will work with, however, here are a few things that we look for in all our applicants (soft & hard skills):
  • Strong communication skills
  • Time management skills
  • Organization skills, detail oriented,
  • Self-motivated
  • Able to use Google Drive and its various apps
    • Willing to learn the other various websites/software that we use (like notion, google classroom)
  • Proficient in the English language
  • If you are currently a volunteer or have applied to volunteer, you will have an advantage.
  • Skilled at giving feedback
  • Skilled at scoping out opportunities
How does the application process work?
We have two different types of applications: general board members and lit mag staff. General board members include everything but lit mag staff.

LIT MAG STAFF
  • Apply through this form: click here
  • This application will ask you varying questions about experience, passion, etc. This is all you will have to do. We will announce lit mag staff at our Writeathon on December 27th
GENERAL BOARD APPLICATIONS
First, you apply using our application form, which is linked here
You cannot edit and come back to it, so we recommend you write your answers on another program and copy and paste. We know mistakes happen and sometimes you'll forget things, so we've made it possible to edit your submission after you submit.
Parts of the application:
  • General Information
  • Position Specific Questions
  • Referral (optional)
After you submit that, you will recieve an email about interviews, scheduling, and our "pitch," one of our hiring positions. If you have any questions, please email us at contact@tywi.org.

Some things to know
We have weekly board meetings and expect one representive from each sector to attend
We have a lot of programs, and thus, help out other board members with their work
We will challenge you, but we also expect you to be self-motivation and responsible
We care dearly about our volunteers and directors. You will also go through an onboarding training in January. This is mandatory.
We prefer passion over experience, so if you're worried that you don't "have enough," don't worry! We want to see passionate people. Experience can be taught.
This is a selective process, so even if you don't get it, that doesn't mean you are less than anyone. You will find your window of opportunity :)
